Traffic Stop Offenses
From ihallenius ihallenius@madison.mt.gov
When entering offenses for a traffic stop, it requires that the offense be coded as a misdemeanor or an infraction. In Montana law, there are some traffic laws which may be either a misdemeanor or a felony (for example DUI or criminal endangerment), depending on how many times the suspect has been arrested for an alcohol related offense in the past. The statute number is the same, but the offense may be coded as either a misdemeanor or a felony.
It would be helpful if it didn't require the offenses to be coded as a misdemeanor or a felony, and the Officer was able to change the type when they wrote the report.
