Using Two-Factor Authentication with One-Time Passcodes

If your device cannot download the Google Authenticator application, two-factor authentication can still be used. One-time passcodes are used instead of the passcodes from the app.

TIP: Even if your device can use the Google Authenticator application, one-time passcodes can still be used.

To use two-factor authentication with one-time passcodes:
  1. From your User Profile screen, in the Two-Factor Authentication area, click Generate.
The Generate Key window opens, with the following message: Generating a key will allow you to associate this account with Google Authenticator. Are you sure you want to generate a Google Authenticator key?
  2. To generate the key, click Generate. Otherwise, click Cancel
A Quick Reponse (QR) code is displayed, as well as the Account Name and Private Key fields.
  3. Click Close to close the window.
In the Two-Factor Authentication area, the One-Time Passcodes field is displayed.
  4. Click the View button for that field.
The View One-Time Passcodes window opens.
  5. Enter your password, and then click Submit.
A message is displayed, explaining how one-time passcodes work, as well as a list of 10 one-time passcodes. The passcodes can be used in any order, but each passcode can be used only once.

NOTE: It is recommended to print or write down the one-time passcodes and store them in a secure place.

The two-factor authentication is set up. After logging in to the system with your username and password, the Enter Two-Factor Passcode window opens.
  6. Enter the one-time passcode.

Generating additional one-time passcodes

When the 10 one-time passcodes on the list are used or nearly used, new passcodes must be generated. Make sure to generate more one-time passcodes before logging out after the tenth use. Otherwise, your next login attempt will fail because the two-factor authentication cannot be completed. It is recommended to regenerate your one-time passcodes on the ninth login at the latest.

To generate additional one-time passcodes:
  1. Open your User Profile.
  2. If at least one passcode is left, then in the One-Time Passcodes field, click the View button. The View One-Time Passcodes window opens. Enter your password, and then click Regenerate One-Time Passcodes. The new passcodes are generated.
  3. If no passcodes are left, then in the One-Time Passcodes field, click the Generate button. The new passcodes are generated.
  4. To view the passcodes, in the One-Time Passcodes field, click the View button. The View One-Time Passcodes window opens. Enter your password. A list of passcodes is displayed.
