Understanding Field Types on Search Screens

Search screens use the following types of fields for search criteria:
  • Text field. Requires that information be entered in the field. No options are provided. Wildcard characters can be used. See the article "Searching Using Wildcard Characters."
  • Multi-Select fieldProvides a list of options to select for the field. Multiple options can be selected. Wildcard characters cannot be used. See the section "Using Multi-Select Fields" below.
  • Numeric field. Requires that numbers be entered in the field. Letters or special characters are not allowed. In general, wildcard characters cannot be used. However, phone number fields can use the question mark wildcard character.
  • Date fieldFunctionality varies, depending on the search option selected. By default, the Dynamic level for the Date Range search option is selected, and a list of time periods is provided. For example, Last 3 Full Days. See the article "Searching Using Search Options." If another level is selected, then a date must be entered, either directly or by using the drop-down calendar. See the section "Using the Drop-Down Calendar" below.

Using multi-select fields

To select search criteria in a multi-select field:
  1. In a multi-select field, click the drop-down arrow to view a list of values for the field.
  2. Select the check box for the desired value. Multiple values can be selected.
  3. To narrow the list, use the Search field. As data is entered, the list narrows by items that begin with the information entered.
  4. To select all values in the list, select the Select All check box. To clear all values, clear the check box.
  5. To close the list, click outside of the list.

Using the drop-down calendar

To select a date using the drop-down calendar:
  1. In a date field, click the field label, and then change the search option to a Date Range level. For example, On. The Calendar icon appears.
  2. Click the Calendar icon to open the drop-down calendar. The current month and year are displayed by default.
  3. Select a date from the calendar. Dates in the current month display in bold font, while dates in the next or previous month display in regular font. Any date can be selected.
  4. To move to the previous or next month, click the Prev or Next buttons.
  5. To enter the current date, click Now.
  6. To close the drop-down calendar without selecting a date, click Done.

TIP: When a date is directly entered, the specified date is highlighted in the calendar. This can be useful for learning what day of the week the selected date was on.
